My parents are visiting from Malaysia this month and it has been so nice to be able to spend time with them (when I'm not making pasta, of course). My Malaysian roots stretch back to mainland China, so a lot of the food I grew up with looks like Chinese food. It's no wonder I was inspired to make pasta because of my dad's love of noodles when I was a kid. Look how he put this Malaysian spin on my tagliatelle yesterday - a little soy sauce, a little oyster sauce, and a traditionally Italian food becomes Malaysian. Thanks, Dad!
