World Central Kitchen is a non-profit founded ten years ago by a husband and wife team committed to eradicating the double-edged sword of hunger and poverty through training, education, and economic initiatives.
But in more recent years, they have risen to lead efforts to feed the hungry who are coping with disaster (natural or man-made) all over the world.
And now WCK is part of the #ChefsForAmerica work to feed people during the COVID-19 pandemic. They are helping school districts feed their neediest students, even though school is closed. They are providing meals to isolated seniors reliant on outsiders for meal assistance. They are feeding the hospital workers stretched to the breaking point caring for others.
Even more impressive, all of those meals are being prepared by restaurant staff who would otherwise be unemployed.
Since the COVID-19 outbreak began, WCK has served more than 4.5 million meals across the globe! They are active in 200 American cities and 30 states, and have distributed nearly 50,000 meals in Florida alone.
As you may already know, Garden of Esther has teamed up with SeaLantro and Awaken Kombucha to do the same on a local scale. Through our Feed A Neighbor program, we are inviting area residents to give money for us to make meals to feed the hungry of Treasure Coast. Generous souls donate the cash and we do the cooking and the delivering, charging just enough to cover our costs.
Hearty spaghetti dinners - served with Chicken alla Cacciatora, Puttanesca, or Ragu' alla Bolognese, and optional kombucha - are being delivered to five destinations: Treasure Coast Food Bank, Cleveland Clinic IRC, Treasure Coast Compassionate Care, HOPE for Families Center, and Camp Haven.
GoE is also still selling pasta to our customers! You can get your fresh pasta fix in a variety of ways: Farmers Market Drop Off, Treasure Coast Harvest, Society Market at Stuart Green Market Drive-Thru, SeaLantro, and The Mercantile at The Tides.
We're happy - and very grateful - so many of you are continuing to support sales through all of these local venues.
All of which is why Garden of Esther is donating 2% of all revenue to WCK. It's the right thing for us to do.
When you purchase GoE pasta, you're not only getting a healthy, fresh, locally-made, and delicious dinner, you're also helping a hungry child or adult have access to a hot meal of their own.
Thank you for all you give to Garden of Esther - and thank you for helping us give back to others, too.
